A 48-place long day care centre on a quiet residential street, looking after children from 6 weeks to school age. Five Early Childhood Teachers. A cook on site. Three rooms with stable, long-tenured educators. Open 7am to 6pm, 50 weeks a year. Child Care Subsidy approved.
Normanhurst Child Care Centre opened its doors in October 1997. We are a purpose-built, 48-place Normanhurst daycare on a quiet residential street, just south of Hornsby on the upper north shore of Sydney.
What that means in practice: three rooms, our own cook on site, and a team that knows every child by name. We are owned by Eikoh Seminar Australia, which also runs three sister centres in St Ives Chase, Roseville and West Ryde.
Each room has its own pace, its own routine, and its own dedicated educators. Ratios are above the NSW minimums.
For our youngest learners, from 6 weeks to 2 years. Calm, unhurried days that respect home routines. Three educators in the room each day.
Bottles, formulas (S26 Gold 1 and 2, Lactose Free, Soy), nappies and meals all included. Flexible feeding and sleeping schedules that match what works at home.
The toddler room, focused on social skills, self-care, and language. Children learn to share, take turns, manage their own things. Three educators in the room each day.
Music, movement, story time, sensory play. Open-ended materials that follow what the children are noticing. Nappies and meals included.
The preschool room. Where the school readiness work happens. Two educators in the room each day. Most children leave us for big school the following year.
Early literacy and numeracy through hands-on materials. Project-based learning that follows the children's questions. Outdoor time every day.
Every meal at Normanhurst is cooked on site. Breakfast, morning tea, a hot lunch, afternoon tea, and a late afternoon tea for children still here at pickup time.
The menu rotates over four weeks and is approved by Munch & Move, the NSW Health initiative for healthy eating in early childhood. We cater for allergies and dietary requirements, and the centre is nut aware.
In an industry where many centres see new faces every term, we have been remarkably stable. Three of our teachers have been here for two decades or more.
Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) and Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education). Has been with the centre since 2006, and now leads it as full-time Centre Director.
Bachelor of Education (ECE). Nominated Supervisor and Educational Leader. Part-time teacher in the Koala 2-3 Room. With us since 2000.
Bachelor of Education (ECE Teaching). Responsible Person and Educational Leader. Part-time teacher in the Emu 3-5 Room. With us since 2005.
Our centre's philosophy shapes how we plan, how we teach, and how we treat the children and families in our care.
Our play-based curriculum embraces Belonging, Being, and Becoming, the EYLF. A child-initiated, adult-facilitated program. Active exploration over set themes.
Mutual trust and open communication with families. Strong connections with our wider community, in particular the local schools.
A calm, stable, welcoming centre. Wide, open spaces that encourage children to explore and discover on their own terms.
A team approach where educators are respected, encouraged to grow, and supported in their reflective practice.
An active community role in caring for our environment and contributing to a sustainable future.
A socially diverse and multicultural society. We recognise and value that diversity, and acknowledge the Darug and Guringai peoples whose Country we play and learn on.
We take children from 6 weeks to 6 years across three rooms. Possum Room (0-2 years, up to 12 children, 3 educators), Koala Room (2-3 years, up to 15 children, 3 educators) and Emu Room (3-5 years, up to 20 children, 2 educators).
$185 per day for 0-2 years, $175 per day for 2-3 years, and $164 per day for 3-5 years. Fees include all five meals, the education program, and nappies for children under three.
Most families receive Child Care Subsidy which significantly reduces this out-of-pocket cost. The actual amount you pay depends on family income.
We open 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 50 weeks of the year. We close for two weeks at Christmas and on NSW public holidays.
Yes. Our cook Dianne prepares five fresh meals every day in our centre kitchen: breakfast, morning tea, hot lunch, afternoon tea, and a late afternoon tea.
The menu is approved by Munch and Move, the NSW Health initiative for healthy early childhood eating. We are nut aware and cater for allergies and dietary requirements.
We use an Emergent Curriculum guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (Belonging, Being, Becoming). Programs are play-based and start from each child's interests, observations, and family input rather than from set themes.
The aim is for children to be active learners who explore, problem-solve, and build the social and self-care habits that prepare them for school.
We have one of the most stable teams in the area. Several of our team have been with us for over a decade, with our most experienced educators going back more than 20 years. We employ five degree-qualified Early Childhood Teachers (ECTs), which is well above what is typical for long day care.
In total our 11-person team has more than 130 years of combined experience at this centre.
66 Denman Parade, Normanhurst NSW 2076. We are about 22km north-west of the Sydney CBD, on the T1 North Shore line between Hornsby and Wahroonga, on a quiet residential street near Normanhurst Park.

Yes. We work with the NSW/ACT Inclusion Agency, an initiative of the federal Inclusion Support Programme, to support educators in including all children including those with additional needs. We are happy to discuss your child's specific situation on a tour.
Tours run weekly. The best way to know if we're a good fit is to walk through. Meet Jacque, see the rooms, ask whatever you want.
