Why Hornsby families come to Normanhurst

Hornsby families come to Normanhurst Child Care for several reasons. The centre is small at 48 places, with many educators here for over a decade. That continuity is what Hornsby families often tell us drew them in. Drop-off is fast: park on Denman Parade, walk in, and you're done.

About the centre

Normanhurst Child Care Centre is a long day care centre on Denman Parade, one train stop south of Hornsby. We've been here since October 1997. 3 age-banded rooms (Possum 0-2, Koala 2-3, Emu 3-6), a long-tenured team with several Early Childhood Teacher qualifications between them, and our own cook preparing all meals on site daily.

Centre Director Jacque has been with us since 2006. Educational Leaders Hayley and Rochelle have both been here for over 20 years. For Hornsby families, that depth of experience is one of the most common reasons they tell us they made the drive.

Three rooms, one for each stage

The Possum Room takes babies from 6 weeks to 2 years, with 1 educator for every 4 children. Days run to each baby's own rhythm, so sleeps, bottles and floor play happen when your child needs them rather than to a fixed timetable. The Koala Room is for 2 to 3 year olds at a ratio of 1 educator to 5 children, a busy year of language, mess and growing independence. The Emu Room takes children from 3 to 6 at 1 educator to 10 children and runs our school-readiness program in the year before school, building the group skills, early literacy and confidence that make the move to the local public and independent schools families choose a smooth one.

Because all three rooms sit under one roof, a child who starts with us as a baby can stay through to school without changing centres, and siblings get dropped at a single address. We are rated Meeting under the National Quality Standard.

Five meals a day, cooked in our kitchen

Our cook Dianne prepares five meals on site every day, working from a 4-week rotating menu approved under the NSW Munch & Move program. The kitchen is nut-aware, and allergies and intolerances are managed by Dianne where the food is made. For parents commuting through Hornsby, it also means no lunchboxes to pack before a 7am drop-off.

Settling in and daily updates

New children begin with orientation visits before their first full day, and we pace the start around your child. Once enrolled, the OWNA app shows you meals, sleeps, nappy changes and photos as the day unfolds, easy to check from a desk in Hornsby or on the train home.

Daily fees and Child Care Subsidy

Daily fees are $185 (Possum, 0-2), $175 (Koala, 2-3), and $164 (Emu, 3-6), with all meals, sunscreen, a bucket hat and the education program included. Disposable nappies and baby formula included for the Possum and Koala rooms. We're Child Care Subsidy approved, so most families pay considerably less than the headline rate. Try the gap-fee calculator on the homepage to estimate your out-of-pocket cost.

Questions Hornsby families ask

How far is the centre from Hornsby?

Hornsby is the next suburb north of Normanhurst. The trip is about nine minutes by car or one train stop, and the centre is a short walk from Normanhurst Station.

Is there parking?

Yes, there is parking on site at 66 Denman Parade, so drop-off does not depend on finding a street spot.

What ages do you take?

From 6 weeks to 6 years, across the Possum (0-2), Koala (2-3) and Emu (3-6) rooms.

Are you open during school holidays?

Yes. We are a long day care centre, open 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday for 50 weeks of the year, so care runs through the school holiday periods.
