Why Wahroonga families come to Normanhurst

For Wahroonga families, Normanhurst Child Care is a particularly natural fit. The train commute home from the city stops here on the way to Wahroonga, so pickup is on the way for parents heading north. The 198 bus from Wahroonga also stops near Normanhurst Station. For families further into Wahroonga proper, the drive along Pacific Highway is about ten minutes outside peak times.

About the centre

Normanhurst Child Care Centre is a long day care centre on Denman Parade, a short drive from Wahroonga. We've been here since October 1997. 3 age-banded rooms (Possum 0-2, Koala 2-3, Emu 3-6), a long-tenured team with several Early Childhood Teacher qualifications between them, and our own cook preparing all meals on site daily.

Centre Director Jacque has been with us since 2006. Educational Leaders Hayley and Rochelle have both been here for over 20 years. Many Wahroonga families stay with us from baby room through to school readiness, alongside the same educators.

Inside the three rooms

Babies from 6 weeks join the Possum Room, where 1 educator cares for every 4 children and the day follows each baby's own routine. At around two, children move into the Koala Room (1 educator to 5 children) for a year of language, friendships and growing independence. From three, the Emu Room runs at 1 educator to 10 children and builds steadily towards school readiness. A child can start with us as a baby and stay until school without ever changing centres.

Meals cooked on site every day

Dianne, our cook, makes five meals a day in the centre kitchen on a 4-week rotation approved under the NSW Munch & Move program. The kitchen is nut-aware, allergies and intolerances are handled where the food is prepared, and everything your child eats is included in the fee. No lunchboxes, ever.

The year before big school

For Wahroonga children heading to school, the Emu Room's school-readiness year focuses on listening in a group, managing belongings, early literacy and numeracy woven through play, and the social confidence to join in. Children leave us ready for the local public and independent schools Wahroonga families choose.

Your first weeks with us

We settle new children in gradually, starting with orientation visits and building up days at a pace that suits your child. The OWNA app keeps you across the day as it happens, with photos, meals and sleep times, whether you are at work in the city or five minutes away at home. We are rated Meeting under the National Quality Standard.

Daily fees and Child Care Subsidy

Daily fees are $185 (Possum, 0-2), $175 (Koala, 2-3), and $164 (Emu, 3-6), with all meals, sunscreen, a bucket hat and the education program included. Disposable nappies and baby formula included for the Possum and Koala rooms. We're Child Care Subsidy approved, so most families pay considerably less than the headline rate. Try the gap-fee calculator on the homepage to estimate your out-of-pocket cost.
